Victorian Solid Shutters fitted by Shutter Logic

Many period homes such as Edwardian or Victorian house were built with solid window shutters. Unfortunately over the course of time, as fashions changed, many of these solid shutters were removed as people remodeled their homes. We have seen over the past 10 years a significant rise in the sale of solid shutters for Victorian home owners who try to reinstate many period features removed from the property.
This installation shows 2 windows in a period home. Each window has 4 panels which are hinged as bifolding panels. You can see that the window has an angled recess and the shutter panels were designed specifically to concertina onto each other and fold neatly onto the side recess.
Solid panels come in 2 designs. Those shown have a raised panel insert, which is a reproduction of shutters that were installed in more upscale homes. The other option is a flat insert which is preferred by customers who don’t want the design to be so fancy.
Of course, a consideration before ordering solid shutters is that the panels have to be folded open in the daytime, otherwise the room will remain dark. Victorian homes which had Victorian window shutters often had a box on the side of the window where the panels retracted into. Again, over the course of time these boxes were removed or painted closed. However it is possible to make solid shutters which fold into these boxes, if they still exist.
As with this home in Loughborough, Leicestershire, Shutter Logic would love to hear from you to help you choose the perfect design of shutters, either solid or louvered for your home.
