Shutterly fabulous were involved here in a project for a customer based in Brentwood, Essex and they faced a typical problem that many houses in the area had – a lack of privacy. The property was not large but the client had made the most of the available downstairs living space by opening up the entire area. This meant that the dining and living areas were opened to form one large room.

As the property was close to the road and was a house that many people walked past en route to the station, it was easy for people to look directly into the room. Indoor cafe shutters were an ideal solution as they give the option of tilting the shutters slats to get privacy. However leaving the shutters panels closed over and tilting the slats means that you still have light coming in through the slats but people walking past outside, cannot peer inside. As this home was knocked open to provide one large space, the clients were visible most of the time when home, therefore indoor cafe shutters hung on a bay window were the perfect solution.

The house had replacement uPVC windows which don’t always look the best due to the thick framing that such windows have. In addition, for a Victorian house the bay is atypical as the side windows are quite wide, but the height of the overall window not that great. As such, the consultant opted to install indoor cafe shutters which mean that the shutters just cover the lower half of the window. In this instance, we made the height of the plantation shutters cover the heavy horizontal frame on the middle part of the window. Also, Shutterly Fabulous advised the customer to select white shutters which again helped take the eye away from the harshness of the uPVC windows.

The acid test of the success of any project our shutter trade partners undertake is what the customer feels about the end result. We are delighted to say that the customer involved loved the room and especially the white shutters on their window.
