When Westway Shutters got a call back in 2005 from a customer enquiring about plantation shutters, Tom Dunleavy was somewhat surprised when he went to visit and discovered that the house wasn’t even built yet! Tom recalls it made measuring the windows for their shutters a little difficult to say the least.

The customer was doing a self build in Leominster, Herefordshire and was already thinking about window shutters before they’d even built the first wall. However, they wanted to pull together all different contractors, decorators, furniture companies etc that they would use on the entire project - right at the beginning. Westway Shutters had been contacted initially as they also sell a wide range of interior windows treatments. Being in West way’s Monmouthshire showroom one day, the customers noticed that they also sell window shutters and loved the idea from that moment on..

With it being a self build project the clients were looking for cheap shutters to help them with their budget restraints. Although California Company hardwood shutters are fairly priced and installed by shutter company’s who give a completive service, Tom was not able to claim to offer cheap shutters. However the clients were appreciative of Westway’s clear and transparent pricing and service. They had actually been deterred by companies claiming to offer window shutters 3 for 2.

The customers were especially pleased with how the shutters looked from outside the house and really believe that the shutters pull the house together. Being a farmhouse style house, the windows were quite typical of that style and were not enormous. However the shutters fitted in just perfectly and Westway Shutters were able to work with the window company to ensure that the shutters aligned perfectly with the windows.

The house was completed and the window shutters installed in 2007. While Tom can say that it was the longest shutter installation he and his installer been involved in, the photos speak for themselves and the shutters look just great!
