Café shutters
Cafe style shutters are essentially half height shutters which tend to stop in line with a natural break in a window. This is normally half or three quarter height. Cafe style shutters are usually fixed within a 3 sided frame (no top frame piece), whereas full height and tier on tier shutters are generally fitted within 4 sided frames.
This style of shutters create a classic look, chic and relaxed, just like in the French quarters from old movies. They are also really practical, letting plenty of light flood into a room above the shutter, whilst allowing you to tilt the louvers for extra privacy and light control at the base where the shutters sit.
More often that not, cafe style plantation shutters are used when a house is situated in such a place that people can see in through the windows - near a road or pavement perhaps. Café style shutters can also be used on sash windows where the windows can be particularly tall, privacy is maintained and light is allowed to flood into your room. Generally our customers opt for this style of shutters for their simplistic yet effective aesthetic features. A painted light colour such as a white or cream will give you a clean, crisp feel, whereas a stain or colourful custom pain colour will create a feature, which is dominant in the room.
To give blackout at night, curtains can be fitted above the café shutters. However if full window coverage is something you are looking to achieve we would suggest opting for full height or tier on tier shutters, rather than perhaps mixing curtains with Café shutters. Full height shutters give a very clean, seamless finish and are a cost effective window coverage solution.
